No Display on Tablet

I've tried this on my laptop and computer with the same effect. The tablet appears to be off; the power button does nothing. However, if I hold the pen over the tablet, it will interact with my computer. So technicaly, I could use the tablet to draw on the display of my computer. However, I want to extend the display onto the tablet and draw there. When I go into display settings, it doesn't detect an additional display. And the tablet won't power up or automatically do a duplicate display. Any idea what's going on here?
