How to Fix No Pen Pressure Issue in Adobe Illustrator (Windows)

To fix no pen pressure in Adobe Illustrator on Windows 10 or 11 with a Huion tablet, follow these steps to ensure proper driver setup, software configuration, and compatibility:

  1. Verify Huion Driver Installation
    1. Uninstall any previous Huion drivers completely.
      1. How to Uninstall Version 15 Driver (Windows)
      2. How to Uninstall Version 15 Driver (MacOS)
      3. How to Install and Uninstall the Drivers on Linux Devices
    2. Download the latest driver from Huion Download Center.
    3. Install the driver and restart your computer.
    4. Open the Huion driver software and test pen pressure in the “Pressure Test” area.
  2. Enable Windows Ink
    1. In the driver settings, make sure Windows Ink is enabled. This is crucial for Illustrator to detect pressure input correctly.
  3. Set Up Illustrator Brush for Pressure
    1. Open Illustrator and switch to the Painting workspace (Window > Workspace > Painting).
    2. Select the Brush Tool and open the Brush Options.
    3. Create or edit a Calligraphic Brush:
      1.   Set Size to “Pressure”.
      2.   Adjust Variation to a non-zero value (e.g., 5–10 pt).
    4. Apply the brush and test strokes with varying pressure.
  4. Check Illustrator Compatibility
    1. Ensure you’re using a version of Illustrator that supports pressure sensitivity with third-party tablets.
    2. Illustrator CC 2019 and newer generally work well, but some users report better results with CC 2021 or later.
  5. Avoid Conflicting Drivers
    1. Do not install drivers from other tablet brands alongside Huion drivers—they may conflict.
    2. If you previously installed drivers from other tablet brands or other Huion tablet driver versions, uninstall them and restart your system.
  6. Run Illustrator as Administrator
    1. Right-click the Illustrator shortcut and select Run as administrator.
    2. This can help Illustrator access tablet input properly.
  7. Try Disabling Windows Ink (if issues persist)
    1. If enabling Windows Ink doesn’t work, try disabling it in the Huion driver and test again.
Note: This may affect pressure sensitivity in some Adobe apps, so test both settings.
  8. Test in Other Apps
    1. Confirm that pen pressure works in other programs like Photoshop or Krita.
    2. If it works elsewhere but not in Illustrator, the issue is likely Illustrator-specific. Enable pen pressure in Illustrator preferences through the following steps:
      1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Input Devices

      2. Ensure Enable Wacom or Tablet Input is checked (even for Huion tablets).

      3. Restart Illustrator after changing this setting.

  9. Update Windows and Illustrator
    1. Make sure your Windows OS and Illustrator are fully updated.
    2. Compatibility issues can arise from outdated software.
  10. Contact Huion Support
    1. If none of the above steps work, reach out to our support team at service@huion.com with the following  details:
      • Serial number (found on the back of the tablet, which starts with S/N)
      • Driver version
      • Computer operating system and its version
      • Illustrator version
      • Link to a video capturing your issue (please ensure the link is unrestricted)
