When you plug in your tablet's USB cable to your computer's USB port, you may encounter the following error: "USB device not recognized" or "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Failed)". These errors are commonly encountered on computers running on Windows and may be caused by the following:
- There may be a possible conflict between two or more connected USB devices
- The driver may have been corrupted or missing
- There is a problem with the USB port, or the port may be broken
- The USB driver isn't correctly formatted
- The USB device was not detected or is not showing on your computer
- Your device may be broken
If you encounter this error, please try the following methods to solve this issue:
Method #1: Restart your computer
Sometimes, the issue is fixed by restarting your computer a few times. Here's what you need to do:
- Unplug your tablet from your computer.
- After a few minutes, restart your computer.
- Plug your tablet back in and check if the error still pops up.
- Repeat steps #1-3 a few times.
Method #2: Try connecting your tablet to a different USB port
- Connect your tablet to a different USB port on your computer.
- If you are using a USB hub or adapter, try using a different one. If possible, connect the tablet directly to your computer without using a hub or adapter.
Method #3: Scan your computer for any hardware changes
- Click the "Search" icon on the taskbar and type "Device Manager".
- Select your computer name, click "Action" on the menu, and then click "Scan for hardware changes".
- Wait for the scan to complete, then disconnect and reconnect your tablet.
Method #4: Uninstall USB controllers
- Click the "Search" icon on the taskbar and type "Device Manager".
- On the search results, choose "Device Manager" and click "Open" to launch the Device Manager window.
- On the Device Manager window, expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
- Right-click the USB controller with the issue and click on the "Uninstall device" to remove it. Repeat these steps for all USB controllers and USB Root Hubs with an issue under the Universal Serial Bus controllers. This is marked with a yellow exclamation mark icon.
- Unplug your tablet, restart your computer, and plug your tablet back in. Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers you've uninstalled after the computer starts.
Method #5: Disable USB selective suspend settings
- On the taskbar's search box, type "power plan".
- Click and open "Choose your power plan".
- Click "Change plan settings". If you have more than one power plan, change the one that you are using.
- Click "Change advanced power settings".
- Expand "USB settings" and then "USB selective suspend setting." If it is enabled, change it to "Disabled" and click "Apply".
- When using a laptop, change "On battery" to "Never", then click "Apply".
Method #6: Disable Fast Startup in Windows
- On the search box, type "Control Panel" and select Open > Hardware and Sounds > Power Options.
- Click "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left panel.
- Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)". If you can't uncheck it, click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" to enable the ability to uncheck this setting.
- Click "Save changes".
Method #7: Repair Broken or Corrupted Registries
- Install a registry cleaner on your computer and scan for broken or corrupted registry entries. You can download free ones from the Internet. Before performing this step, ensure that you create a backup of your system registry.
Method #8: Update Windows
- Install the latest Windows updates by clicking the Start button > Settings Icon > Updates & Security.
- On the "Update and Security" screen, click on Windows Update on the left-hand side menu and click the "Check For Updates" button.
- Allow Windows to check for available updates and install them on your computer.
Method #9: Roll back Windows
- If you set up a system restore in Windows, try rolling back to an earlier state when the error was not encountered.
Method #10: Try using your tablet on a different computer
- If you can access another computer, please try plugging your tablet into another computer and check whether the other computer can detect your tablet. If it works on another computer, then your computer may have a problem.

- A video of your cable connection from your tablet to your computer and the error encountered. Upload the video to a cloud storage such as Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, etc., remove the restriction, then share the unrestricted link.
