  • Hi Keith (cklx622), our Linux driver requires the X11 desktop protocol to work. Thus, please follow the steps below to switch to the X11 protocol:

    1. Log out of the current session to return to the login scree (SDDM).
    2. At the bottom-right corner of the login screen or next to the username, locate the gear or settings icon.
    3. Click it to display the available session types. Then, select "Plasma (X11).
    4. Enter your password to login using the X11 session.

Here's the link for your reference: Kubuntu.

  • In a situation where I am unable/hard to switch to X11 (I'm using sway), is there any other alternatives?

  • Hi, Mangie Rockz. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. We understand that switching to X11 can be challenging, especially if you're accustomed to Sway or other Wayland-based environments.

Currently, our driver is officially supported only on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Although X11 serves as a fallback for users on other distributions, we acknowledge that it may not be an ideal solution for everyone. Unfortunately, we don't currently offer a native Wayland-compatible alternative due to the wide variety of Linux distributions and compositor implementations.

That said, we continually evaluate ways to enhance compatibility, and we appreciate your feedback—it helps us prioritize future development. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

  • Same. Debian 13.0 (Trixie) was released and KDE Plasma 6.3.5 now has Wayland as default.

It's not practical to switch back and forth from wayland to X11.

Maybe there's no need to modifiy the drivers, just some configs would do the trick?

Anyhow, Please bump this up into the product roadmap. It's becoming increasingly important. For each user that speaks up, there are hundreds that have this same problem but don't bother.

  •  Hi, DiegoRC. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We truly appreciate your suggestion regarding Wayland compatibility for our tablet drivers. It's wonderful to hear from users who are passionate about improving our products.

We have forwarded your request to our software engineering team for review. While we can't make any guarantees at this time, we are always looking for ways to enhance compatibility and performance, and your input is invaluable in that process.

Thanks again for reaching out. If you have any further thoughts or questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

  • Thanks for replying and offering insight into this Orliza! I just purchased a Kamvas 13 3rd gen and am using it on Arch. After a lot of troubleshooting between this and opentabletdriver, this is finally working for me (after installing plasma-x11-session and logging in with an X11 session).

While I _can_ use it, this is far from ideal. I'm going to try and offer business reasons why Wayland support should be prioritized for a more immediate priority. I want to be clear that I am ecstatic that you support Linux and I can use that software natively and I'm merely wanting to see it get better!

It makes complete sense that Ubuntu be the distribution you support and follow what's default for it.

I would point out that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is no longer in standard support as of May 2025 (https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle). This is now an operating system that is no longer supported by Canonical. Wayland has become the default as of LTS 21.04 (https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/trying-wayland-by-default-again/20575?u=d0od).

Further, when Canonical releases Ubuntu 25.10, they are completely removing xorg (https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-25-10-drops-support-for-gnome-on-xorg/62538). This also means that the upcoming LTS release of 26.04 will likely also completely remove xorg.

Now is probably the right time to start pushing the driver update to Wayland and get some testing in before Ubuntu x11.

I would be happy to help developers troubleshoot and test Wayland changes if this helps the process at all.

  • Hi, Jason Beck. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and thoughtful insights—it's truly appreciated! We're glad to hear that you've managed to get your Kamvas 13 3rd Gen working on Arch. Your feedback about Wayland support is incredibly valuable, and we completely understand your desire for a smoother, more native experience.

Our software engineering team is actively working on expanding compatibility for our Linux drivers, including support for Wayland. That said, this process is quite complex, as we need to ensure stability and performance across our wide range of devices. Each product requires thorough testing to guarantee a consistent user experience.

We’re committed to improving our Linux support and will be sure to keep you updated as soon as a new driver version becomes available. Your offer to assist with testing is very generous—I'll make sure to pass that along to the team.

Thanks again for your support and for being part of the community!

  •  I just wanted to re-iterate the thank you for supporting Linux. I work in software development and I know how daunting all the combination of software the Linux ecosystem along with the small user-base makes supporting it unattractive. I am deeply grateful you not only provide the Ubuntu installer but also provide the alternative .tar.gz driver.

Looking forward to the Linux driver advancements!

  • Hi, Jason Beck. Thank you again for your thoughtful message and for sharing your perspective as someone who also works in software development. We really appreciate your recognition of the challenges involved in supporting Linux across so many environments, and it means a lot to hear that the effort is valued. Providing both the Ubuntu installer and the .tar.gz package is part of our commitment to flexibility, and our team is continuing to work hard on advancing the drivers. We’ll keep you updated as new improvements become available.
