Photoshop straight line drawing with "Shift" key is Broken

Hi, Using a Kamvas pro 24 4K, with the latest drivers on the latest version of photoshop, windows11. Really Happy with this tablet so far! except for one thing.

The Holding shift while clicking two points to draw a straight line is broken, this works okay with brushes that have pressure sensitivity off but whenever the brush is pressure sensitive, it breaks down. the line between the points does not appear unless I start clicking multiples times while holding shift and even then it is unreliable and the Pressure interpolation between the two points is broken.

I have tried with and without Windows ink on the Huion driver, also tried with and without the PSUserconfig.txt fix for photoshop, saw that this was something that had been apparently fixed with previous updates to the drivers but this appears to still be an issue.

This is an issue I also saw posted on Adobe's form but left unsolved. Coming from another brand tablet and heavily relying on this feature for drawing, this is devastating for me. Really hoping this can be resolved.

Thank you.

  • Hi Julian, I understand where you are coming from. May you please provide the following so we can look into this further:

    1. Your Photoshop version
    2. Your Windows 11 version
    3. Are you using Driver_15.6.3.132?
    4. A video of the issue so I can forward this to our software engineers

  • Hi,

    1. Photoshop version is:

     24.3

    2. I have the same behaviour on two computers windows 11 and 10, this video is captured on windows 10, version is: 10.0.19045 Build 19045

    3. Driver is indeed: V15.6.3.132 I have attached a capture from the Huion Driver, when I press check for updates nothing happens but it tells me "This is the latest version".

    4. I have attached a video showcasing the issue. Normal behaviour would be: stylus pressing at one spot, then shift+press on another spot so a straight line is drawn between the two, the line should also interpolate pressure between those two presses.

Instead, right now the first press is ignored. I have act like I'm creating a first line then keep holding shift and the subsequent presses will create a line, keeping in mind those subsequent lines are still not behaving as intended as they should use the pressure sensitivity of each press to interpolate the brush settings between the points.

Here is a video showing the Feature working as intended

    https://youtu.be/IHAEVm9omaM?t=47

(using a mouse so it does not showcase the pressure sensitivity)

    Hope this is clear enough.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Julian, thank you for providing the video and other information. It is much appreciated. I have forwarded them to our Technical Department for further review. I'll inform you as soon as I receive their update.

In the meantime, may you kindly provide your tablet's firmware version as well? You can find it in the driver. Go to "Settings" > "Device" tab.

  • Hi Orliza,

    Firmware version is:

    M207_220823

Your support is much appreciated and eagerly awaiting for a solution to this.

  • Hi Julian, it's my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for your firmware version as well. Kindly try this driver version and see if this works for you: HuionTablet_WinDriver_v15.7.4.196_ShiftNoPress.

I look forward to your feedback.

  • Hi Orliza, tried this driver. Behaviour is improved, now the line is Drawn right away.

However, pressure sensitivity from the pen is still not taken into account.

The first line always starts at 0% pressure and ends at 100% pressure, then all the subsequent lines are drawn at a 100% all the way no matter how much I press the pen.

I'm guessing this is why the firmware has "ShiftNoPress" in the name :)

So while this is improved over the previous behaviour it still does not work still not as intended.

    Much appreciated.

  • Hi Julian, I'm sorry, I forgot to inform you that you need to press "Shift" before your first tap so that the pressure will be the same on each tap.

When you say "pressure sensitivity is not taken into account", do you mean you want the pressure to change depending on how hard you tap your pen? I believe the pressure is the same when you use the "shift + left mouse click".

  • Hi, Yes pressure should change depending how hard the pen is pressed. All the tablets I've used before retain pressure sensitivity while holding shift as Shift in photoshop is used to make straight lines, not losing pressure. "Shift + mouse clic" has no pressure sensitivity because a mouse does not have pressure sensitivity, clicking on the mouse always goes to 100% "pressure" on every tool in photoshop or others creation software.

    Best,

  • Hi Julian, duly noted. Thank you for the clarification. I will convey this to our software engineers. I'll get back to you with updates when available.
